2018

Nikihk Management and Community Development Society was established to support the community

2019

Nikihk played a pivotal role in developing initial plans to move the community’s goals forward. This began with the Kelly Lake Community Safety and Development Plan.

2020

Nikihk supported a community process to develop a Strategic Plan for Kelly Lake. The vision in this strategic plan emphasized the community’s commitment to upholding Indigenous rights and traditions: "The Kelly Lake Indigenous Community is committed to upholding our Indigenous Rights; our culture and traditions on the land, honoring our unique culture and the people we serve to create a community that is unified, self-sufficient, and prosperous, and where our people are healthy and thriving."

2021

Nikihk continued to diligently pursue the community's goals, focusing on bringing essential services and infrastructure to Kelly Lake.

2022

The community directed Nikihk to prioritize governance as essential towards removing barriers to community needs.

Our Housing Committee and Education Committee are Formed.

2023

Service delivery, cultural events, and Governance Pathways move ahead.

A Governance Working Group is Formed.

2024

Our Story and the Kelly Lake Declaration are Developed. A Governance Committee is elected.

Employment opportunities increase through expanding partnerships with industry and training institutions.

Ground breaks for the first Kelly Lake housing project in 45 years.

Our community directs the Governance Committee to support an election process for a Kelly Lake government.

2025

Community housing and infrastructure planning is moving ahead, with ground breaking for our first Administrative Building.

Health service planning is underway to bring health and wellness services into Kelly Lake

Our community is preparing for an election process in April 2025.
