Community Life at Kelly Lake

Nikihk is dedicated to enriching the lives of Kelly Lake community members by providing essential services and programs that foster health, education, safety, and cultural vitality.

Community Services and Programs:

  • Training and Employment: Implementation of training programs aimed at boosting employment opportunities, along with a scholarship program to support educational aspirations. We have also developed strong partnerships with industry, including mining, oil and gas, and forestry, resulting in employment agreements, training opportunities, transportation services, and growing numbers of community members able to live and work in Kelly Lake
  • Health and Wellness: We have developed a working partnership with Norther Health to bring necessary health services closer to home, ensuring the wellbeing of the community.
  • Community Clean-up: Organized activities such as community clean-ups and bush clearing to increase the safety and accessibility of community lands.
  • Cultural events: Every year we host a culture camp and Kelly Lake Days to strengthen community bonds and maintain and grow our cultural heritage.
  • Language Classes: Beginning in 2024, we initiated weekly language lessons to revitalize our Cree language.
  • Emergency Management: We have developed robust strategies for community safety and emergency preparedness. We have a community safety plan, and work with Emergency Management BC to plan for potential environmental risks, safeguarding our community.
