COMMUNITY INFORMATION BULLETIN
On Wednesday, May 17, Elders and members of the Kelly Lake Community met to discuss a proposed community governance process for the first time. The meeting was held at the Kelly Lake Community Centre and was very respectful, positive, and productive.
At the meeting, the proposal to bring the idea of a working group to initiate the development of a governance model for Kelly Lake to the community for discussion and approval was supported. In fact, attendees proposed to name the working group ‘Mamawihatoskehk’ or ‘Working Together’ in Cree and decided that all Kelly Lake Elders will have a seat on the working group.
A terms of reference is currently being developed for Mamawihatoskehk. It will be presented to community members for discussion and approval at the next Community Meeting taking place on Saturday, June 10 at the Kelly Lake Community Centre. All Kelly Lake community members are encouraged to attend and participate in this important meeting.
As the primary sponsor of Mamawihatoskehk, Nikihk Management and Community Development Society (Nikihk) invites everyone to sign up as a member of the NEW Nikihk Facebook Page to receive more information.
